Is plumbing break covered by most home warranty plans?
Oct 24th, 2008 by DougP
Anyone know if the drainage pipe from the home to the city pipes are covered by basic home warranty or insurance plans?
They will find a way to get out of paying for it. THEY ALWAYS DO! They will say that you neglected to perform maintenance or that the pipe was broken before you were covered, etc. There is no way they're going to pay for it.

Within the first 6 years, but any quality builder will warranty it

Most home owners policies do not cover the expense of having the piping repaired. It is the responsibility of the homeowner to maintain their home and keep things in a usable condition. The damage caused by the leak however should be covered and you will be asked what repairs and preventative work has been done since the leak occurred. Same with a roof leak. You are required to keep a good roof on your home but if it leaks you must have it repaired and insurance will cover the damage. most policies will not cover water backing up out of floor drains from rain ect. This would need a flood rider attached to your policy.
