Are there any people out there who don't know AMERICAN HOME SHIELD is a total SCAM?

If you are thinking about purchasing a home warranty, FORGET ABOUT IT! I got one with my home recently and the heat went out over winter. They referred me to the fine print in my contract stating I should have properly maintained my heating system the 5 months I lived there. Not to mention it was the motor that went out…how the hell am I supposed to maintain a motor?!??!
Long story short, the money you save NOT purchasing a home warranty you should stick in an emergency savings account. Add to it a little bit every month so when something does happen, you won't have the sick feeling of knowing you paid "x" amount of dollars for your home warrenty + $55 for a service fee only to find out they won't cover your item (meaning you are out WAY more money than the cost of fixing it yourself.
Am I bitter? HELL YEAH I'M BITTER.
I reported AHS to the Better Business Bureau, only to be referred to the fine print of my contract.
Don't be the sucker I once was!

All extended warrantees are a ripoff. No matter what the product. ESPECIALLY CARS and APPLIANCES.

The squeaky door gets the oil.In other words call and explain your problem to a supervisor at AHS.I used to deal with them alot.
Did the contractor call for autho from your house? If I was your servicing contractor I would've changed it out.It sounds like to me the guy was lazy and didn't want to work just collect the co pay.Call your Realtor and raise hell. That should get the ball rolling.Realtors don't like it when clients put out the word on them.
Now down the road get a service contract with a local HVAC contractor and start the paperwork trail so next time you wont have a problem. It is your responsibility to have your equipment serviced but this isn't your fault.Isn't this what home warranties are for?To me 5 months is too short to not be covered.

I am sorry that you had to learn the hard way! Years ago, I worked for a plumbing company, that did AHS service calls. I saw more disgruntled people in 6 months, than I have for the last 10 years. The main "scam" that they were using us for, was if a toilet wasn't "properly" installed, when the home was originally built, they would deny the claim. An improper installation meant, the flange, that is UNDER the toilet should be bolted to the floor. If it wasn't, it was a denied claim, and the customer was still responsible for the service call. I don't know of ANY home inspector, that pulls a toilet up to see if the flange is bolted down! It made me sooooo mad, I quit after 6 months, because I couldn't stand to see the clients getting ripped off.

I’m sorry to hear that you guys have had such a headache with American Home Shield, but I have to say I have had lots of good experiences over the past 5 years with them. If you EVER have a problem, talk to your realtor and they can almost always get the problem esculated and problem resolved.
So far..
1 toilet flange (was rotted thru the floor)
3 leaky toilet turnoff valves replaced (2 diff houses)
1 new dishwasher
1 new water heater
work on my dryer and washer
Failures:
was told that the liner / seal was covered on my old fridge by phone rep. The app guy came out and said no go and took my money. I called the office, complained because I explained the problem before hand and they gave me a voucher.
BTW. My Realtor was only involved ONCE. The other times they were more than willing to help out. Also, wait times were never longer than 5-10 minutes with most of them instant.
