Has anyone had personal experience with American Home Shield or First American Home Warranty.?
Sep 2nd, 2008 by DougP
I recenty filed a claim with First American and they are replacing my outside a/c unit , but not without problems. Was wondering if there is a better warranty company out there.
You gotta realize, they make money when they sell the policy and lose it everytime there is a claim, so they are not really gonna cheer happily to fix these things (kinda like health insurance). You gotta keep on them, and bug them to get this done or they'll do a lousy job or even not bother. I never get home warranties anymore as they rarely are needed, and even when something does come up the company is a pain to deal with; and they are all a pain.
Really, its the realtors that love these things as usually push them as they get a commission and are less likely to be sued if a problem does come up.

RE broker
We had a problem with First American a couple years ago - the paperwork we had signed at closing gave a deductible of X, but when we had to make a claim, the deductible had mysteriously increased to x+20….they claimed our broker had given us the wrong paperwork, but when we checked, it was the paperwork still being passed out by the brokers 9 months later. Their customer service was incredibly rude, and although they did pay the claim, they only did so on the basis of the inflated deductible. I will never do business with them again.
